About Your Pilates Teacher

Jennine Prochera-Best – BSc (Hons) Sports Performance and Coaching

From a young age, I've always enjoyed sport and keeping fit, with running, cycling and snowboarding being my main pursuits.

I discovered Pilates in 2002, as it was recommended to my husband to help with his work-related lower back pain and, although I found it completely different to my usual kinds of exercise, I could really feel the benefits. Pilates complemented my other activities, and helped to keep my body balanced, flexible and injury-free.

In 2004, I developed an auto-immune disease that forced me to stop working and re-asses my life. I decided to follow my passion for health and fitness and returned to academic study, reading BSc (Hons) Sports Performance and Coaching at the University of Plymouth, UK. Around this time, Pilates also helped me to recover from abdominal surgery; although I was told that I would be unable to exercise for several months, I was back to full fitness in 6 weeks! After graduating, I went on to train intensively in Pilates in order to become a teacher with the Pilates Foundation, and taught several classes around the UK. I continued to teach Pilates when I moved to Canada, expanding my range with a Stott Reformer course, as well as working as a Kinesiologist in two national-level Physiotherapy companies. Because of my background, I am very passionate about helping people overcome their barriers to exercise, and improving their quality of life, just as exercise and Pilates has helped me.

Pilates has given me the tools and motivation to remain fit and flexible into my later years; living in Cumberland, surrounded by nature and able to pursue so many activities, motivated me to follow my dreams and teach Pilates full-time, in my custom-made studio. This drive, coupled with my extensive knowledge of physiology and performance, means that I am ideally placed to assist you with achieving your goals, whether training for a specific sport, recovering from injury, or just looking to stay fit and flexible.

I look forward to working with you!
